Offline: I have been offline, and will stay offline for next next one or two years - if nothing dramatic happens (or until I can afford an Apple iBook - which will be in one or two years). My CPU died and I'm not willing to buy a new CPU because I've already paid more for replacement hardware, than what I paid for the original setup (and then there is no reason to invest in a x86 system anymore). I have just installed PyDS on my 133mhz Laptop to post this message, using it on this system is a pain. First there is no modern browser working on this machine, and secondly it takes about 3 minutes just to launch PyDS, taking another 3 to load the main server page in the browser and finally I only have about 50mb diskspace left on this 2gb disk... also no good. Using the "links" browser to find new photography pages is also hopeless. I'm trying to find a solution, but right now this is it. (I own a copy of the ExpressionEngine, but customizing it on this system will also be days of work)

Sally Mann: sallymann There is only one person who should be allowed to photograph children, Sally Mann. Perfect, naturalistic images.

PBS also has part of its website devoted to her - this site includes clips from an interview.

Rolfe Horn: Rolfe Horn Large format photography by Rolfe Horn. F45.

Why do I have the feeling that his images and website remind me of Michael Kennas' website?

Update: Read his biography, he actually assisted Michael Kenna. Style recognition.

White and Black Photography: Why don't we just say "White and Black photography", sounds strange, but refreshingly different. I also like the french "noir et blanc", or "la cambre noir" - for darkroom.

Shulman: Julius Shulman I bought a copy of Julius Shulman, Architecture and Its Photography, or Julius Shulman, Architektur und Fotografie yesterday. It's a faboulous book, and the german edition is also cheap, compared to some other photography books. It has an endless amount of images, some of the most powerful color architecture photos on double pages. Shulman calls it an autobiography, and that's what it is, but the text, with some interesting stories, only takes up less than half of the book - the rest is just perfect architecture images.

Interestingly, in comparison to the USA, in Germany the architecture photographer plays a much smaller role in architecture, while some architecture photographers in the States are big names, nearly as important as the architect himself.

I already linked to some of his photos in the past.

Michael Kenna: Michael Kenna The most perfect B&W photos and prints. Dynamic. Perfect Landscapes. Michael Kenna

A good negative can be wrecked by a bad print - often is - a bad negative can rarely be redeemed, but there is so much potential for subjective interpretation and discovery in the middle. I can stay in the darkroom for many hours exploring a new negative. Reprinting, trying to duplicate an existing interpretation, is of course not nearly as much fun or as exciting. Art becomes craft.

I visit his website nearly every day and look at the pictures over and over again.

testing.: The problem might be fixed now. All the old files are back and the problem was with the PYDS_HOME variable in Windows (which only got set after a reboot, yes - it don't like Windows, but my scanner doesn't work on Linux, and i don't like the gimp).
